A Seat at the Table – Fav moments!

If you follow me on social media you are aware that I have listened to the new Solange album about 1 million times.

I have to say that I adore every single song. In honour of such I would like to take a moment to highlight my fav lines from each song.

  1. Rise

Walk in your ways, so you won’t crumble (so you won’t crumble)

Walk in your ways, so you can sleep at night

Walk in your ways, so you will wake up and rise

  1. Weary

But you know that a king is only a man

With flesh and bones, he bleeds just like you do

He said, “Where does that leave you?”

And, “Do you belong?”

I do, I do

  1. Interlude – the Glory is in you

See, you got do stuff till where you can go sleep at night.

  1. Cranes in the sky

I slept it away, I sexed it away

I read it away

  1. Interlude – dad was mad

We lived in the threat of death every day. Every day. So I was just lost in this vacuum between integration and segregation and, and racism. That was my childhood.

  1. Mad

I ran into this girl, I said, “I’m tired of explaining.”

Man, this shit is draining

But I’m not really allowed to be mad

  1. Don’t you wait

Don’t you wait for me

  1. Interlude – Tina taught me

Well, all we’ve ever been taught is white history. So, why are you mad at that? Why does that make you angry? That is to suppress me and to make me not be proud.

  1. Don’t touch my hair

You know this hair is my shit

Rode the ride, I gave it time

But this here is mine

  1. Interlude – this moment

If you don’t understand us and understand what we’ve been through, then you probably wouldn’t understand what this moment is about.

  1. Where do we go

Where do we go from here?

Do you know?

Where do we go from here?

  1. Interlude – for us by us

“If you don’t understand my record, you don’t understand me, so this is not for you.”

  1. F.U.B.U.

All my niggas in the whole wide world

Made this song to make it all y’all’s turn

For us, this shit is for us

Some shit is a must

This shit is for us

But you running out of damns to give, oh

  1. Borderline (an ode to self care)

And you know I gotta go ahead and take some time.

  1. Interlude – I got so much magic you can have some

Don’t let anybody steal your magic,

  1. Junie

Don’t want to do the dishes

Just want to eat the food

  1. Interlude – no limits

Cause I don’t have no limit to what I could do.

  1. Don’t wish me well

They say I changed

But a pity if I stayed the same

  1. Interlude – pedestals

Black kids have to figure it out! We don’t have rehabs to go to. You gotta rehab yourself.

  1. Scales

Ain’t no apologizing, for all of the things you want

So if dreams only go so far

They’ll come to where you are

  1. Closing – the chosen ones

Now, we come here as slaves, but we going out as royalty, and able to show that we are truly the chosen ones

Thank you Solange!!
