Behind the Business

My Little Vixen; The Pleasure Store

Confessions of a Frisky Fashion Writer

We love inspiring stories from amazing people across the globe who are doing great things. This week’s feature focuses on Dana Givens, the Founder and CEO of My Little Vixen LLC.

Who is Dana Givens?

I am 25 years old living in New York City. I started as an aspiring writer working my way up in fashion. I went to school for business but after I graduated, I decided to pursue my creative interests and that was to create stories.

What is My Little Vixen?

We are a provocative online pleasure and beauty designed for the modern women. In addition to our sex blog and intimate products, I write erotica and contemporary romance books under the pen name, The Vixen. We sell sexual, intimacy and beauty related products with brand names such as Lelo, We Vibe, and the Fifty Shades of Grey Official Collection. My inspiration for the brand started when I started the blog in 2012 as a way to just practice my writing and experiment with a blogging platform. The Vixen was my sexy alter ego that I created when I wanted to step out of my clean-cut normal persona that everyone sees. The Vixen is my sexual, confident side that dominates everything she does.

I saw the response from readers that came to my site and watched my site. I always knew I wanted to create my own brand and business. I always wanted to have my own store and we’re in our second year as an e-commerce platform and we’re just getting started,

What made you leap forward to make the first step to becoming an entrepreneur?

There is never an exact moment you’re going to be ready and I was fortunate to have a great support team of my mom, my close friends, and my boyfriend. I just kept pushing myself to do it and never stopped because I knew the moment I stopped was the moment I would give up. Eventually I saved up and started the process of creating my LLC and that was the year my company was born.

How did you know this what you wanted to do for sure?

I’ve always been curious about sexuality and wanted to learn more about how our sexual experience is different for everyone. My sexual exploration made me curious to learn about this part of ourselves that is often never taught but controls a lot of what we do and how we feel. My blog was a way to express my curiosity. I knew this was good when I was in a meeting with one of the managers of a well-known pleasure shop and we’re debating about vibrators and other explicit things. I realized normal people don’t have conversations like that.

So after getting set up, what were the setbacks and what did you do to improve?

The setbacks were that I did not fully understand what it takes to run a business. I think a lot of times people assume that since it’s an online store its easier and I get to work from home but it’s the exact opposite. I had to learn a lot quickly and humble myself realizing I didn’t always know everything.

Do you have any featured products, sales, promotions, launches – etc? Tell us about them and what inspired them?

We offer 25% off every first order with the coupon code FIRST25. We’re also re-launching our subscription box and pleasure party services this summer. Our store is open for all your orders and we sell the best pleasure products on the market from the most high quality brands.

My book series is based on the character of the Vixen called “Sex With Cocktails: Confessions of a Frisky Fashion Writer” comes out on April 26th, 2016 everywhere. You can get the Early Download plus deleted scenes through my publisher, Totally Bound’s, official store.

Are there other black-owned pleasure stores like My Little Vixen?

We are one of the few black-owned pleasure stores. I wanted to set My Little Vixen apart through the characterization of the Vixen being the voice of the blog in combination with the book series. My goal is to expand into a lingerie store and create a store that brings both worlds in a tasteful, fashionable shopping destination.

What is your advice to people having a fear of launching their business?

It’s going to be hard and there are times that you’re going to question whether it’s the right thing to know. Just know that you’re going to be fine and that the struggles come with work but it will be worth it. Don’t give up.

Where and how can people find you?
