Oscar Pistorius: released from prison

The South African star athlete- Oscar Pistorius could be released from jail from as early as August. According to his defense lawyers, Oscar may be released in a couple of months for good behavior after spending 10 months out of his 5 year sentence for killing his girlfriend- Reeva Steenkamp. The South Africa’s department of correctional services has declared that Oscar is behaving himself very well while in prison and that is one of the conditions needed for him to qualify for parole. With his release, Oscar Pistorius will now be placed under house arrest, at his uncle’s house in the capital city- Pretoria.

Oscar Pistorius may still face jail terms

Despite the impending release of Oscar from jail, the Olympic athlete will like face the possibility of murder conviction after 3 months of leaving jail , and if found guilty, he will likely face the maximum 15-year jail sentence. On the first sentence Oscar was found not guilty of murder , however he was found guilty of culpable homicide, and prosecutors are believed to be preparing some new murder convictions at the Supreme court of Appeal by November , 2015.

Reeva Steenkamp family want Oscar Pistorius to remain in prison

As expected, the news that Oscar may be released by August 2015 did not go well with the Steenkamp family who believed that the double-amputee does not deserve to leave the prison. The family was invited to the parole hearing of Oscar, but failed to show up. The correctional service head also believed that Oscar may not be release from prison if he does not continue with his good behavior.
