Let’s take a moment to realize how important hair is in the workplace. Because image is the first thing a person judges, it is our responsibility as women to keep ourselves and our hair well-groomed and neat. We all have different hair types that comes with its own struggle, and that is okay. But once in a while we look over our shoulders and ask how it is professional for Miley Cyrus to wear dreads and not Zendaya Coleman – this entire notion is void.

Those who discriminate need to understand that there is a line between natural hair and a hair style. These people usually discriminate not on the style but on the hair type itself. Most would allow a woman with type 1-2b hair to naturally let their hair down. This would be all too overwhelming for them to allow the same treatment to a person with Type 3c-4c hair.

It is a struggle to deal with these hair discriminating policies, but we know how to deal with them. We throw away our flat irons and we keep rocking our sleek buns and our bomb twist outs! Why? Because they are just as professional as any other hair style and we deserve to be seen as an equal among the straightened and permed professionals. Natural Hair may not be encouraged in the work placed but the way it is styled can make all the difference!
